Babies Day Out

Babies Day Out:

On the 1st of March, 8 students visited the exceptional institution: Oxford University. We felt that we should share our experience with you.

When we first arrived, our first impression of Oxford was that it was entirely different to Manchester. Cars were very rare and the main form of transport was a bike!!!! The vast majority of the people in Oxford were students.

Upon our arrival we were taken into a lecture theatre where we held a discussion about the pros and cons of university life. We discussed things such as...

  • Finance e.g. Student loans, Bursaries and Grants
  • Missing your relatives
  • On campus activities
  • The work involved
  • Day to day life

We then received a speech from Yvette Summers about the importance of working hard at school. She explained to us that 78% of adults regretted not working hard enough at school and this made us feel like we had to work harder to not become another statistic. The speech also taught us to seize every opportunity given to us to become successful. We then were lead through the stages of becoming successful and achieving our dreams. It was literally as easy as ABC:

  • A=Ambition
  • B=Belief in yourself
  • C=Commitment

After a gourmet afternoon delight (for those of you non academics- we mean LUNCH!!!!) we had a very informative talk from a Nigerian student that talked to us about the student life and took of on a tour of Oxford. During our intriguing scavenger hunt of Oxford we visited many architectural buildings including the Bodleian library and Jesus College, they were very interesting and exciting to see.

Overall these experiences made us want to achieve our life ambitions, it has also strengthened our aspirations to attend university, be it Oxford or not. We also know that to achieve this we must stay focused and not allow ourselves to be distracted.
