TRAFFORD SIXTH FORM & FURTHER EDUCATION COLLEGES AIMHIGHER CONFERENCES

Trafford Aimhigher Conferences for Year 13 students take place every October at Manchester Metropolitan University.

BEST is funded to organise the Conference by Aimhigher Trafford. Practical support is provided by the Aimhigher Co-ordinators and appropriate course tutors from the post 16 institutions.

The Conference is for students from the Aimhigher Year 13 cohort from: North Trafford College, South Trafford College, Stretford Grammar School, Urmston Grammar School and Wellington School.

The aims of the Conference are to provide the students with crucial knowledge and skills to help them:

  • submit high quality applications to university
  • prepare for life as university students

In order to have as realistic an experience as possible, all the workshops are delivered by personnel from higher education and business, notably the banking industry.

The young people are aged 17-18 years old and in their final year at college. In order to develop their communication and social skills, students are encouraged to mix with their peers from other colleges, particularly in those activities that involve working in groups or pairs.

There are four workshops running throughout the day and students rotate around them in groups of 15 in a 'round robin' exercise, so that each student attends every workshop.

It is important for everyone involved in the Conference, especially the students, to recognize the linkage across all four workshops, bearing in mind the aims and objectives of the Conference.

The four workshops are as follows: Download Workshop Chart
