Health and Safety information with regard to Off - Site Visits and Adventurous Activities
All schools within the Trafford Local Authority will have in operation a policy for the organisation and monitoring of off -site visits and adventurous activities.
For Community Schools and Voluntary Controlled schools, under the control of the Local Authority, this document can be found at:-

EducationAndLearning/ParentalSupport/School-Visits
Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools are required to have a similar document of at least equal detail.
Each school will have a member of staff undertaking the role of Education Visits Co-ordinator who, in conjunction with the Headteacher and Governing body, will advise staff on the organisation and record all activities which are undertaken off -site or are of an Adventurous nature.
Community and Voluntary Controlled schools also have to obtain approval for any activity that is Residential, Overseas or Adventurous from the Local Authority as its employing body.
This is undertaken using the paper system of forms OE1 – OE3 which can be downloaded from links in the right hand column of this page.
The Outdoor Education Adviser will monitor and approve forms submitted.
Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools will have a similar system for approval from the Governing Body as its employing body.
It is hoped to replace the paper system in the near future for a web-based system.
A system is also in place for the approval of individual placements where pupils may be referred to agencies for individual learning packages or activities.
For adventurous activities this is approved by the OEA using the form OE5 and OE2.
(Download PDF Form OE5 here.)
(Download Word Doc Form OE5 here.)
For non - adventurous activities this is approved by the Referring Agency using the form OSV - IP1 plus OSV - IP2.
All external providers have to comply with the LA requirements with regard to Public Liability Insurance and, in the case of adventurous activities, if applicable, comply with the AALA regulations.
A system of emergency procedures and Health & Safety guidance must also be in place.
